The
Morvern Countryside Exchange report highlighted the benefits
of developing the asset of Fuinary Forest for the benefit of
the community. The forest currently produces a sustainable crop
of around 30'000 tonnes of softwood a year but to date the benefit
to the local community has been modest. |
The
MCDC is working with the Morvern Community Woodlands Association
to develop a range of projects to involve the community in woodland
management. One of the main ideas is to purchase a sector of
land known as Kiel Camp site and establish a small community
owned sawmill with storage area for logs and various product
ranges, for lease to a private contractor |

The second idea would
be for the Morvern Community Woodlands Association to develop alongside
the sawmill workshops, demonstration and training facilities.
Planning Permission has been applied for and MCDC are awaiting the
outcome of this application.
We are presently in
the final stages of applying for lottery funding for this project
